Our sad little lives are spent in a society of illusions, we exist within a web of our own making, we live in a delusion that our inventions are somehow intrinsic and true in this universe and that nature can be overruled. A magical place where we can get away with anything with the approval of a loving god of wrath and vengeance.
But now the jig is up! and the chickens are coming home to roost.
My work addresses the choice our society faces if we insist upon a male metaphor as opposed to the feminine metaphor as a societal baseline. The male metaphor sees the natural world as something corrupt that must be brought to heel, “be made productive”, “be tamed”, “be developed” ,”controlled”, the idea that all natural functions are corrupt and that to deny their existence is somehow the highest moral virtue.
Whereas the feminine metaphor, the Goddess, is nature itself she is the embodiment of all positive metaphor, she is justice, she is liberty, enlightenment, beauty, the four seasons, the three phases of the moon, the earth beneath our feet and a thousand other metaphors, and she is far older than all the male deities combined; and the only metaphorical notion that reflects the true reality of the world we actually inhabit.
Our planet is not a gift to us, it is a place we are extremely lucky to occupy, but we are looking more and more like short term tenants.
If our society yearns myth and metaphor as the core of its existence it seems to me that it might be better if it were a good metaphor, a truly moral metaphor. The average person has no clue what a metaphor is, even though their entire existence rotates around them.
I find the feminine metaphor totally superior to the male. The “terrible father” figure as described all too accurately by Sigmund Freud in Moses and monotheism is a mean and fickle alfa male / tribal chieftain spreading false guilt and and petty hatreds through intimidation and the institutionalization of lies, with only a lust for power, property and dynasty in their sights, this is the core of all oligarchies. And it has caused all of the problems we are now facing in the world.
Whether it is the all knowing God or the all knowing state, it’s all the same, its all about what puny earth bound losers controls what, and as Oscar Wild observed we “know the price of everything and the value of nothing”, with the way we squander it all away, as though it were actually a gift from some god or other to us.
The odd thing is that all of the things we should feel guilt for, we don’t!, we will casually destroy our own life support system without a collective thought given, as we overpopulate past the point of no return.
However if some young celebrity type flashes her plastic fantastic tits at an awards show or half time at the big game, sleazy wealth controlled media will have a pseudo moral feeding frenzy, and from Pulpits and other habitats of empty talking heads across the land will be declared that tits are the great societal menace, along with appeals for a return to the old time morality, in other words, a lot of pointless male dominant, racist, sexist, homophobic mean spirited crap inflicted by a bunch of taliban like organisms of the three supposedly great theologies, as they appeal for a return to that good old time religion, a.k.a. the dark ages.
The Goddess is actually the oldest religious and moral metaphor, and she was there at the birth of all arts and cultures, and has remained a constant force in the rise and proliferation of arts and cultures for tens of thousands of years.
This world doesn’t care what we believe, it doesn’t care what we want, it doesn’t give a damn about economies, politics, religion, ownership, law,...
The only thing that matters is that this earth is the only real thing we have; the only true and reliable thing in our little lives, in other words our only tangible asset.
And the sad fact is that our planet has no use for us, we are reverting to nothing more than a parasitic invasion, chewing away at our evermore cancer riddled host, never realizing that our planets immune system seems to be gearing up for a fight, and our enfeebled attempts to counteract it will eventually fail.
we are living in a pivotal time in history; what we do or don’t do will have huge repercussions on an already absurdly overpopulated planet, and I feel that the arts have a place in drawing attention to our folly and self indulgent religious excesses.
This planet, this tiny speck of green in a solar system otherwise devoid of this color, the only place in our known, universe that this puny species can cling to this microscopic bit of dirt and rock rotating a tiny atomic flame near the end of our galaxies spiral arm. This is the only place in the whole big scheme of things that we matter. and we choose to make ourselves and all we touch redundant.
We are stoned on a constant supply of metaphorical rubbish pushed upon us by a cadre of sleazy oligarch warlord scum clans of inheritance. Who will bleed the life out of everything they touch as they always have when given the oportunity.
Our talent for self-indulgence seems limitless, the only thing that beats it is our talent for self destruction.
We are herded animals, sheep to the slaughter, Lemmings towards the precipice. Goodbye fool world, in the end we have only our earthbound puney selves to blame.
